Evangelias Normousi photo
Education

Evangelia Ntormousi studied Physics at the University of Thessaloniki. She obtained her Ph.D. in Astrophysics in 2012, from the Ludwig-Maximillians University of Munich, as part of the International Max-Planck Research School in Astrophysics.

Career

She was a postdoctoral fellow at the CEA (Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux énergies alternatives) in Saclay, France until 2017. She then moved, as a Marie-Curie postdoctoral fellow at FORTH, where is is collaborating with Prof. Konstantinos Tassis.

Education

Paolo Bonfini obtained his MSc in Astrophysics at the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) in 2008, and his PhD in Physics at the University of Crete (Greece) in 2013.

Career

After the PhD, he obtained a postdoctoral position at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing (CAS) of the Swinburne University of Technology (Australia) during 2013-2015. Then, during 2015-2017, he was awarded a Mexican postdoctoral fellowship to work at the Instituto de Radioastronomia y Astrofisica (IRyA) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2018 returned to IA-FORTH as a postdoc. From July 2018 until February 2020 he was a postdoc affiliated with the National Observatory of Athens.

Interests

Spectral properties of nearby galaxies,  scaling relations between Super-Massive Black Holes (SMBHs) and their host galaxies, morphological modelling and evolution of nearby galaxies, dust rings in early-type galaxies, extragalactic Globular Cluster (GC) populations.

Ioanna Leonidaki
Education

Ioanna Leonidaki obtained her B.Sc. in Physics in 2003 and her M.Sc in Theoretical, Computational Physics and Astrophysics in 2006 from the University of Patras. In 2012, she obtained her PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Patras in collaboration with Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) in Boston, MA, USA and National Observatory of Athens (NOA).

Career

The period from 12/2012 to 02/2016, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of National Observatory of Athens (NOA). Since March 2016, she is a post-doc researcher at Institute of Astrophysics at FORTH and University of Crete – Department of Physics.

Interests

Observational Extragalactic Astrophysics, with emphasis on optical, X-ray and infrared astrophysics: Studies of the properties of Supernova Remnants (SNRs) in different types of galaxies and in different wavelengths (optical, X-rays), probing for their interaction with the Interstellar Medium (ISM). Studies of (Ultra) Luminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs): investigation of how dense gas in these galaxies correlates with Star Formation Rate.

Vincent Pelgrims obtained his Master in Space Sciences at the University of Liège (Belgium) in 2011 after his Bachelor in Physics at the University of Mons (Belgium) in 2009. He obtained his PhD in Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Liège (Belgium) in 2015 for his work in observational cosmology.

Career

After his PhD, Vincent was a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratoire de Physique Subatomique et Cosmologie de Grenoble (France) (2016 - 2018). In 2019 he came to Crete to join the PASIPHAE project for his second postdoc. He is also an external collaborator of LiteBIRD since August 2021.

Sebastian Kiehlmann received his diploma in Physics at the University Göttingen (Germany) in 2010 and his PhD in Experimental Physics at the University of Cologne (Germany) for a thesis written at the Max Planck Insitute of Radio Astronomy in Bonn (Germany) in 2015.

Career

He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Metsähovi Radio Observatory of the Aalto University, Espoo in Finland in 2015/2016. From 2017-2019 he was a staff researcher at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory and California Institute of Technology in the USA. He joined the Institute of Astrophysics in Crete in spring 2019 as postdoctoral researcher.

Fabio Del Sordo obtained his Bachelor degree at the University of Pisa in Physics in 2002, his Master in Astrophysics at the University of Pisa (Italy) in 2008, and his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Stockholm (Sweden) in 2013.

Career

He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Commissariat à l´énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) in Saclay - Paris (2013-2014) and VR international postdoc fellow at Yale University (USA) and NORDITA (Denmark) during 2014-2017.

Konstantina Anastasopoulou received her BSc in Physics from the University of Patras in 2012,  her MSc in Astrophysics from the University Observatory Munich of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in 2014 and her PhD from the University of Crete in 2020.
 

Career

Upon completion of her PhD she continued as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics. 

Interests

X-ray binaries and ultra-luminous X-ray source populations in nearby galaxies, relation with host galaxy properties (e.g. star-formation rate, stellar mass); Spectral energy distribution of black holes, neutron stars and ultra-luminous X-ray sources, integrated X-ray spectrum of galaxies.

Education

Grigoris Maravelias graduated from the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) in 2004. He obtained his MSc in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics from the University of Crete (Greece) in 2007, and his PhD in Astrophysics in 2014 from the same university.

Career

After completing his MSc, he served his military service (2007) and worked as a laser technician (2007-2009) at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH, Greece). In 2010, he succeeded in acquiring funding from the State Scholarship Foundation of Greece that allowed him to obtain his PhD in Astrophysics in 2014. Then, he moved on to work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Czechia, 2014-2016), the Universidad de Valapaiso (Chile, 2017), and at the University of Crete and FORTH (Greece, 2017-2018). Since September 2018 he is employed at Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications, and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens, while collaborating with the Institute of Astronomy (FORTH) and the University of Crete.

Interests

Observational Astrophysics, with focus on massive stars, X-ray binaries, variable stars, circumstellar matter, stellar populations in other galaxies, exoplanets. Other interests include Professional-Amateur networking and collaborations, and Openness in Astronomy.

Blinov

BlinovDmitry
Education

Dmitry Blinov obtained his MSc and PhD in Astronomy at the University of Saint Petersburg (Russia) in 2008 and 2011.

Career

After a short period of Junior research fellow at the Astronomical Institute of the St. Petersburg University he moved to Crete in 2013. In Crete, he has been a member of the RoboPol project, an international collaboration on optopolarimetric studies of active galactic nuclei. His research was mainly focused on studies of optical polarization behavior in blazars and its connection to high-energy emission of these sources. Since 2017, he has joined the PASIPHAE project, an international collaboration on the mapping of polarized foregrounds for Cosmic Microwave Background B-mode searches through a large-scale optopolarimetric survey of high Galactic latitudes.
